What is grades of cement??

Grades of cement (IS 1489-1991)

The grades of cement depends on compressive strength of a particular cement. There is three types of cement grades. Mainly 33, 43 and 53 are grades of cement.

Specification of grades of cement.

Specifications:-

(i)               Grade 33:-  The cement having strength 33 grade N/mm2 after 28 days when is tested is called as 33 grade cement.

Properties:-

Fineness (specific area) = 300m2/kg.

3 days compressive strength = 16 N/mm2.

7 days compressive strength = 22 N/mm2.

28 days compressive strength = 33 N/mm2.

This grade has high workability and is mainly used for mortar is masonry work and for plastering.

Uses:-  Plastering, brickwork, Tiling work, stone masonry

(ii)             Grade 43:-  The cement having strength 43 grade N/mm2 after 28 days when is tested is called as 43 grade cement.

Properties:-

Fineness (specific area) = 225m2/kg.

3 days compressive strength = 23 N/mm2.

7 days compressive strength = 33 N/mm2.

28 days compressive strength = 43 N/mm2.

This cement is moderately sulphate resisting. It has good workability, also gives better surface finish.

Uses:-  R.C.C. bridges, P.C.C and R.C.C. work, pre-cast and prestressed concrete, Silos and chimneys.

(iii)          Grade 53:-  The cement having strength 53 grade N/mm2 after 28 days when is tested is called as 53 grade cement.

Properties:-

Fineness (specific area) = 225m2/kg.

3 days compressive strength = 27 N/mm2.

7 days compressive strength = 37 N/mm2.

28 days compressive strength = 53 N/mm2.

This cement low chloride content, and saving in shuttering cost due to early removal. Speedy construction.

Uses:-  concrete slippers for railways, industrial building, roads, runways, lofty building.
